World Record Events and
Congressional Testimony
Electric Fuel
Propulsion Inc. (EFP) undertook a number of demonstrations with various of its electric vehicles, some of which
turned out to be World Record Events or First of a Kind Performances.
The items
shown on the following page are further discussed in other parts of this Web Site except for the first item,
the trip from Detroit, Michigan to Washington, D.C. in March, 1967.
This trip was
made in a MARS II Electric Car with a 50 kW Fast Charger in station wagon which followed the electric car. The
trip started in Detroit and proceeded to Toledo, Ohio and from there, on the Ohio Turnpike to the Pennsylvania
Turnpike and to Washington, D.C. where the car was shown to Members of the Senate Commerce Sub-Committee on New
Technology in the Senate Garage.
The trip took
5 days due to a heavy snow storm that slowed down traffic and sometimes closed the Turnpikes. The electric
utility companies along the way provided 50 kW service at sub-stations on the route.
A
considerable amount of publicity was generated on the trip with reporters from newspapers and TV stations
always present at the scheduled recharging stops. This resulted in a number of orders for the MARS II Electric
Car by various electric utility companies.
This trip was
a "first" - the longest trip ever made by an electric car.
